W. Schillig

With W. Schillig, there is no compromise about quality.  There are no two ways about it.  We feel it is very important for you to know the factory who is making your furniture, and what they stand for?  With W. Schillig, it's plain to see the tremedous pride in making something for you that is made for your enjoyment, to make your life more relaxing at home, and is built to last.

Hardwood Frame - All W. Schillig frames are constructed of kiln dried hardwood and top-grade ¾” plywood. All joints are corner blocked, double doweled, glued, and stapled. This effort dramatically increases stability and durability of all joints.  Other factories typically use softwood, particleboard or medium density fiberboard (MDF), with joints that are only stapled and glued.

NO-SAG SPRINGS - W. SCHILLIG uses only steel no-sag springs to create an active support suspension system. Nylon clips and heavy duty thick felt padding are integrated into the system to minimize friction and noise.  Other factories typicall utilize two to three straps of elastic webbing stapled to each end of the furniture frame, and then place foam on top. This is a low-cost alternative that offers less support, creates inferior durability, and will leave you with a slumpy sitting piece of furniture in a short period of time.

SPRING COILS - W. SCHILLIG seats are engineered with steel coil springs to create consistent, long lasting comfort. And, for additional comfort, we encase the coils in high-density foam.  Other factories tend to use dacron low density foam stuffed seats, which provide less support and tend to sag over time.

ELASTIC WEBBING - W. SCHILLIG uses double the amount of elastic webbing in our back support and, to provide soft but firm body support, we wrap our webbing in high density foam.  Other factories producing cheaper goods use a minimal amount of elastic webbing, covered with low density foam, which creates a too-soft seat that may quickly lose its shape.

HIGH QUALITY LEATHER - W. SCHILLIG selects top grain cow hide leather. Chosen from the top 4% of all hides, our fine leathers offer a luxurious seating surface.  And only top grain leathers are used to cover our furniture.  The frame, cushions, and arms, all are covered using top grain leather, no compromises.  Cheaper factories use phrases like "leatherette" or "leather match" as a way to avoid talking about the use of covers made with parts compiled together to create something that should not be called leather. Things like split leather, Bi-Cast leather, bonded leather, vinyl, or other animal hides, which lack comfort and durability.

DOUBLE NEEDLE STITCHING - W. SCHILLIG incorporates double needle stitching to add beautiful detailing, greater strength, and extended durability.  Cheaper factories frequently utilize single needle stitching, which creates a less attractive piece that typically doesn't wear well.

Z69 LEATHERS - SAUVAGE LONGLIFE XTRA - The Z69 leathers appeal to those seeking a velvety soft and plush leather that also has a uniquely variated tone finish.  These leathers are aniline dyed and sealed for protection.  They are sealed at the tannery and are easy to care for, considered friendly to those with an active lifestyle.  During the tanning process, astringent dyes are added that penetrate the leathers deeply.  The end result is a supple, silky soft leather with subtle hilights of the leather's grains and nuances.  These leathers are 100% natural top grain and feature characteristics present in truly quality leather, such as healed scars, mast wrinkles, structure and slight color variances.  Sauvage leathers are a unique, new generation of upholstery leather.  The leathers range from 0.9mm to 1.1mm thick.

Z73 LEATHERS - LONGLIFE XTRA - The Z73 leathers are a luxury series of leathers produced by W. Schillig.  They feature a fully aniline dyed and sealed finish creating a satin, wonderfully soft and supple finish.  They are gently embossed to enhance the natural look of the hides, and all are made using superior rawhides. The end result is an attractive softness with a good feel and a slightly satin finish. Its natural grain results from a combination of an up-to-the-minute tanning technique and a milling process performed at the perfect temperature.  These leathers are 100% natural top grain and feature characteristics present in truly quality leather, such as healed scars, mast wrinkles, structure and slight color variances.  The leathers range from 1.1mm 1.3mm thick.

Z77 LEATHERS - CONTEMPO LONG LIFE XTRA -  Z77 leathers are luxurious, natural, milled, and thick.  They are made from specially selected rawhides, are fully aniline dyed and sealed, and have a satin finish.  They feature an exceptional softness and supple feel to the touch that is a result of its special milling process.  Their thickness shows off the structure of a design particularly well. Designs upholstered in Z77 have a very stout and prestegious look.  The natural grain really shows well in this particular leather, and results from a combination of an up-to-the-minute tanning technique with a milling process at the perfect temperature. Z77's are sealed for ease of care and use, but are not as sealed as other leathers below this grade level.  As a result, they are still easy to care for and maintain, but diligence must be taken to wipe soiling clean from the surface as quickly as possible.  The leathers are all 100% top grain and have natural features such as healed scars, mast wrinkles, and slight variances in structure and color.  The leathers range from 1.5mm to 1.7mm thick.

Z81 LEATHERS - ELMO SOFT -  Elmo Soft leathers are made using a 100% synthetic vegetable dye tanning process.  They're known for having outstanding comfort combined with excellent durability. Hallmarks of this 100% top grain leather are natural features such as healed scars, mast wrinkles, and slight variances in structure and color.  Elmo Soft leathers are some of the softest and velvety feeling leathers available on W. Schillig designs.  They are sealed and protected for ease of use and maintenance, but have a lesser degree of protection than other leathers below this grade.  Care needs to be given to avoid food and beverage spills as much as possible, and if they occur they must be wiped clean right away.  The leathers range from 1.5mm to 1.7mm thick.

Z84 LEATHERS - LONGLIFE XTRA - Z84 leathers are characterized as thick leather of the highest class.  They are tanned using carefully inspected and specially selectedraw and hides. The leather thickness is enhanced with a dominant grain pattern, giving the leather its luxurious appearance and prestige.  You can see and feel the suppleness and quality immediately.  Emphasis is given to make these leathers soft and velvety, and the result is a beautiful, natural leather that features deep color tone.  They are all 100% top grain aniline dyed, and have natural grain and tone variance that is to be expected in a leather that's made to emphasize the natural beauty of the hydes they come from.  Z84 belongs to the class of easy-care longlife leather. Natural features such as scars, folds from fattening, as well as differences in structure and color are inherent in these leathers and are testimony to their beauty and quality.  These leathers feature limited sealing and stain protection, and care must be given to use.  Food and beverage stains must be wiped clean immediately if they occur.  The leathers range from 1.9mm to 2.1mm thick.

Z87 LEATHERS - ELMO BALTIQUE - Z87 Leathers are the highest grade of leather offered by W. Schillig.  They are intently scruitinzed through the entire tanning process, and only the most perfect and uniform hydes are used to make this leather.  Z87 leathers are sturdy, heavweight, and extremely soft to the touch.  They are full aniline dyed, and there is no surface alterations made in the tanning process.  As such, Z87 leathers will feature any natural characteristics of the hyde, such as healed scars, stretch marks, and limited but natural tone variance.  These leathers are not sealed, and the result is a supremely soft and warm leather.  However, care must be given to avoid food and beverage spills and if they occur, they must be cleaned immediately.  The leathers range from 1.5mm to 1.7mm thick.

Care Information

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and treat occasionally (every three to four months) with an aniline leather cleaner and conditioner. Avoid rubbing vigorously.  Do not use any leather care products other than a W. Schillig Long Life Leather Care Kit or GUARDSMAN LEATHER CLEANER and GUARDSMAN LEATHER CONDITIONER

Important: Avoid intensive exposure to sunlight, as it can lead to severe fading.

DUST Remove with a soft, dry cloth.

DRY DIRT

Gently brush loose debris from surface. Follow up by lightly applying an aniline cleaner and treating leather surface according to its instructions. Dye transfer is possible.

LIQUIDS

Even beer, soft drinks, wine, orange juice, liquors, etc., are no problem because our leather is liquid repellent. Simply dab the liquid away immediately.

Promptly dry area by dabbing with an absorptive cloth. Do not rub. Follow up with dry dirt cleaning instructions, if necessary. Dye transfer is possible.

FOODS AND FAT

Follow dry dirt instructions. Should a grease spot still remain visible, do not attempt to further remove it. It will gradually absorb into the leather.

DIFFICULT STAINS

Even difficult stains like wax crayons, lipstick, crayons, water-soluble ink and shoe polish can be removed per the cleaning instructions if treated immediately.

MORE DIFFICULT STAINING

More difficult stains like nail polish, lead pens, ball-point pens, etc., can be removed with a special cleaning agent under certain circumstances; however, the surface of the leather can become damaged with improper application. Please contact GUARDSMAN FURNITURE REPAIR to consult a best approach towards fixing the damaged area.

Long Life Care Kit by W.SCHILLIG
When dealing with liquids, first soak up excess by dabbing it with a soft, dry cloth. Soiling like cream, shoe polish, butter, lipstick, and water-soluble crayons should be treated immediately as instructed in point number three (3).

Saturate the enclosed sponge with deep-acting Leather Cleaner.

Create foam with the sponge by squeezing. Let the foam react on the spot for a short time, and then treat the area with the foam using circular motions until the soiling is no longer visible. If need be, repeat the process again.

Dab treated area with a soft, dry cloth

Let the cleaned area dry completely (at least 30 minutes).

Afterwards use the enclosed care cloth to evenly apply Leather Cream to the cleaned area for waterproofing. After another 30 minutes, the waterproofed area is again soft and super easy to clean.

Leathers should be treated 2- 4 times per year with the Long Life Care Kit independently from any soiling. By doing so, your leather will remain soft, beautiful and defect free for many years to come.
