TIPS & ADVICE ABOUT YOUR NEW HJELLEGJERDE ® PRODUCT
You have chosen a high-quality, comfortable piece of furniture, which you will be able to enjoy for many years to come. The Hjellegjerde® Group is one of the leading furniture manufacturers in Scandinavia with over 60 years experience. Our products have been tested and certified in accordance with Norsk Møbler - og innredningskontroll. The tests are in accordance with international and national standards. With skilled labour workers and modern technology, Hjellegjerde® has the best position of giving satisfaction to you as a customer. Proper care and periodic maintenance is recommended to ensure that your furniture stays in good condition for years to come. Take care of your furniture by placing it away from heat sources and do not expose it to direct sunlight. Make sure the room’s humidity is at a normal level. Regular vacuum cleaning using a soft brush attachment is recommended. Water soluble stains can be removed by using lukewarm, distilled water together with a mild soap – do not rub! We do not recommend the use of any detergents. If necessary, contact your Hjellegjerde® dealer for help with difficult stains. Visible screws and bolts must be checked regularly and tightened (if necessary) shortly after purchase. We recommend felt knobs to be fitted underneath the legs or bases if the furniture is to be placed on a wooden surface or parquet floor.

Hjellegjerde® offers a wide range of quality leathers to choose from. A piece of leather furniture requires care and maintenance, and it is strongly recommended that you study and follow the procedures of the maintenance information listed below.

We recommend that you clean your Hjellegjerde® leather furniture regularly. Dust should be removed frequently by using a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment and/or dusting with a clean white damp cotton cloth. The leather should be cleaned once to twice a year, preferably with a mild detergent and lukewarm water, or other approved preparations for leather. We do not recommend using detergents on aniline. After cleaning, a leatherenriching oil and moisture-preserving product should be applied. Please ask your dealer about which product to use. Do not use a microfi ber cloth to clean leather. The ability that microfibers have to remove fat may damage the furniture.

If you are going to remove stains or clean soiled furniture, we recommend you contact your Hjellegjerde® dealer for professional advice. You should always show extreme caution and first test the selected method on a concealed area of the furniture. Cleaning products containing solvent or abrasives should never be used. Use of fat-soluble detergents must also be avoided as these products can dry out the leather.

Arm and neck rests are particularly exposed to body oils and sweat. This can lead to dark stains and this breaks down the leather in time. Chemicals from hair products, cosmetics and hand creams, etc. can also result in similar damage. Jeans, particularly when new, can cause discolouring. Sunlight will cause fading and dry the leather out, and effects from other heat sources will also lead to a risk of drying out. Pets should not be allowed to sit on furniture as they too can cause damage to the leather.

No man-made material can compare with the natural beauty of genuine leather. As time passes, the leather’s natural shine and patina will develop and enhance the beauty and character of the furniture. When a leather hide is dyed throughout, the colors are absorbed differently according to the leather’s cellular structure. The different areas of the leather will absorb the dye in varying amounts and add color variations to the leather. The natural markings, scratches and shadings are signs of genuine leather. Leather is the natural and most used upholstery choice for exclusive furniture. Hjellegjerde® offers a large and varied assortment of furniture leathers from corrected leather to the finest, natural analine product. To ensure your satisfaction with respect to making the product special and unique, Hjellegjerde® offers multiple colour selections in any desired grade of leather. Hjellegjerde® sets high standards for the quality of leather that is used in the manufacturing process. In fact, Hjellegjerde® standard meets and sometimes even exceed the International requirements. This is only made possible through the extensive quality control standard that secures high-level and stable quality from our suppliers.

Leather is a natural product. The skin of an animal is affected by the climatic conditions under which it lives. Animals will in the course of their lifetimes receive sores, scratches, wrinkles, stretch marks, insect bites or other things which cause marks on the skin. The leather can also have colour and structure differences as a result from atural unevenness of the skin. These are factors which give leather its natural, characteristic appearance.
W O O D
We purposely use a lot of visible woodwork in our furniture. This is to create a natural effect in our design. Each wood has its individual structure, and that will also show in the surface of the wood parts we use.
A G I N G
All woodwork will change colors over time. The effects of light will cause the woodwork to lighten or darken.
L I V I N G M A T E R I AL
Variations of relative humidity in the air cause the woodwork to shrink or swell, but to a very slight degree. In some cases a sound may come from the woodwork, espcially at the joints. Springback designates the degree of how easily a material returns to its original shape. Since much of our woodwork is compression pressed, there may be some degree of springback. Small variations in springback are allowed within given tolerances. The furniture must be evaluated after assembly. Since the wood is in motion over time, we recommend that you tighten the screws on the furniture at regular intervals.
G L U E J O I N T S
Color variation may occur where it penetrates the glue surface. The glue will not absorb the stain color in the same way the woodwork does.
C O L O R
Woodwork is a natural material and the features will come through in different ways. Uneven color as a result of wood structure, glue joints, small knots and dark layers in the laminate thus become a natural part of a piece of furniture that contains visible woodwork.

Molded, cold cured foam (polyurethane foam) has significantly better properties than block-molded foam. This applies to both the compresson set and sag factor that tell about the foam's ability to tolerate compression without breaking down. The cold cured foam's unsurpassed qualities provide the sitting comfort adapted precisely to you, our customer. The high resilience and good sitting support provide the maximum correct sitting comfort, regardless of where a person sits on the furniture. The cold cured foam's unsurpassed qualities also provide you the correct sitting depth. Form-molding also provides the advantage of being able to completely adapt softness and resilience to the requirements for every single product and thus give the specific piece of furniture the exact desired sitting comfort. Form-molded pillows and cushions are particularly durable and even after a few years of use the pillows will retain their original shape and quality.
