About us

Thank you for visiting and supporting our store.  We've been having a great deal of fun for many years, searching the world abroad for special treasures we can bring to you.  As a fourth generation family owned and operated small business, we sincerely hope you love everything you see, and hope you love some enough to bring into your home!!

Our small family business was started in the mid 1920's by Orville "OJ" Foster.  He was quite an industrious person, and as many of the era did, moved is family from one side of the country to the other in pursuit a better life.  He settled the family in Boise, Idaho.  And quickly established a store for selling fine furniture.  The warehouse from those early days is still a part of historic Boise, fully updated and a formally preserved historical building.  You can CLICK HERE to see an interesting biography about it.

Our particular branch of the family tree came to be when one of OJ's sons, Lynn O. Foster, met Anne Foster, and the two decided it was time to begin their own chapter.  They settled into a new home in Washington, and opened a small store in what was then a small farming community named Bellevue, Washington.  Shortly after their opening in 1951, urban neighborhoods began to sprout up all over the areas surrounding Seattle.  Without a bridge to get customers across Lake Washington, they decided to move the store to Burien, a small suburb of Seattle.   The store was a very nice 5,000 square foot display of unique bedroom, dining room, and living room furniture.  Anne and Lynn had two sons, Terry and Lynn.  Both boys grew up in the family business, and eventually grew to running the store on their own.

In the late 1970's Terry and Lynn saw an opportunity.  The years they'd spent working in the family business gave them the confidence to take a big risk, and build their own building in the City of Tukwila.  In 1978 they moved into their new 20,000 square foot building, where the store remained in operation until 2016 when, seeking retirement, they sold the property.

The fourth generation of our family business started when Chris Foster, the son of Terry and Gerda Foster, started working at the Tukwila store at the age of 12.  Just as his predecessors did before, he learned the business from the ground up.  When the Tukwila location was sold in 2016, Chris and his wife Gina began the fourth generation of our family business.  To this day we adhere to our founder's belief in offering truly unique quality home furnishings.  Chris and Gina love searching the world over to present you with special and unique designs, and offering complimentary design advise to customers wanting to explore different looks before making a final decision on a piece of furniture, or refurnishing an entire room.  It's their sincere hope that you enjoy everything you see and experience at Foster's Furniture.
